Gluten-Free Cheese Dip & Crackers (Lunchbox Snack)
If your child loves those little cheese-and-cracker snack packs but you can’t buy a gluten-free version – this homemade creamy cheese dip is the perfect solution.

It’s smooth, cheesy, simple to make, and sets perfectly in small containers for lunchboxes. Serve it with gluten-free rice crackers or gluten-free Jatz-style crackers and you’ve got a safe, familiar snack that feels just like the store-bought version – only better.
This takes minutes to make, uses basic ingredients, with no hidden nasties, and saves you money too.

Why Make Your Own Cheese Dip?
Many pre-packaged cheese snack tubs aren’t gluten-free (or are hard to find depending on where you live). But making your own means:
- You control the ingredients,
- It’s completely gluten-free,
- It tastes fresher,
- It’s budget-friendly,
- You can portion it exactly how you like.
For my Aussie readers – this was inspired by those classic ‘Le Snak’ – style cheese tubs that have been around since the 80’s.
Ingredients to Make This Creamy Cheese Dip
- 125 g (4.4 oz) cream cheese, cut into small cubes
- 100 g (3.5 oz / about 1 cup loosely packed) cheddar cheese, cut into small cubes
- 50 g (1/4 cup / 2 fl oz) milk
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- ½ teaspoon gluten-free taco seasoning mix (optional)
Simple, real ingredients. Nothing strange. Nothing complicated.

How To Make Homemade Cheese Dip
- Place 125 grams cream cheese, 100 grams cheddar cheese, 50 grams milk, salt and pepper, and optional gluten-free taco seasoning (if using) into a small saucepan.

- Heat over low heat, stirring continuously to prevent sticking or burning.
- Continue stirring until the mixture is fully melted, smooth and glossy.

- Pour into small containers. Allow to cool at room temperature, then refrigerate until fully set before serving.

Makes approximately 8 to 10 small snack-size portions.

How To Serve
In my images, I’ve served this with:
- Gluten-free rice crackers
- Gluten-free Jatz-style crackers
Both give that classic ‘dip and scoop’ feel kids love.
You could also serve with:
- Gluten-free pretzel sticks
- Veggie sticks
- Toasted gluten-free wraps cut into strips
