Made with just a handful of simple ingredients – yoghurt, raspberries, maple syrup, and a few tasty toppings – this frozen bark makes a great alternative to sugar-loaded snacks or store-bought yoghurts full of additives. Plus, it’s naturally gluten-free and packed with benefits for growing kids.
What Is Yogurt Bark?
Yoghurt bark is a simple frozen snack made by spreading flavoured yogurt onto a tray, topping it with whatever fruit, chocolate, or nuts, you like and then freezing it until firm.
Once frozen, it’s broken into pieces – just like ‘chocolate bark’! It’s a refreshing, healthy treat that’s naturally gluten-free, easy to customise, and perfect for kids (and grown-ups) looking for a fun, cool snack.
Why This Yogurt Bark Is a Winner
Here’s why this yogurt bark recipe is so popular in our house:
- Quick and Easy: It takes just 5 minutes to prep and then you let the freezer do the rest.
- Healthy Sweet Treat: Naturally sweetened with maple syrup and real fruit – no refined sugar needed.
- Gluten-Free Goodness: Every ingredient is gluten-free, so it’s safe for coeliac kids and families following a GF lifestyle.
- Full of Nutrients: Packed with protein, probiotics, antioxidants, and fibre.
- Customisable: Swap out toppings based on your child’s preferences or what you’ve got on hand.
- Freezer-Friendly: Make a batch ahead and keep it in the freezer for those “I’m hungry!” moments.
You Don’t Have to Use Greek Yogurt
While Greek yogurt is a popular choice for its thick, creamy texture and high protein content, you can absolutely use other yogurt varieties too:
- Regular plain yogurt – slightly thinner but still works really well.
- Vanilla-flavoured yogurt – adds natural sweetness and flavour (just check that it’s gluten-free).
- Dairy-free yogurts – coconut, almond, or soy-based yoghurts all freeze well for kids with dairy allergies or intolerances.
Just make sure whatever yogurt you choose is gluten-free, and adjust the sweetness as needed, since some flavoured yoghurts may already contain added sugars.
